Phil Leopold

Chairman & Founder

Phil Leopold founded Medical Murray with his son, Andy Leopold, in 1996, and now serves as the company Chairman.

Phil Leopold founded Medical Murray with his son, Andy Leopold, in 1996, and now serves as the company’s Chairman. In his over 25 years at Medical Murray, Phil has helped hundreds of medical device companies, inventors, and entrepreneurs design, develop and commercialize intricate medical devices, implantables, and insert molded components used for minimally invasive procedures. He also provides overall strategic direction including financial and operational management of the company's four facilities nationwide.

Prior to launching Medical Murray, Phil was President of Bucher, Inc. where he led all sales and engineering of injection molding machines and turnkey manufacturing systems for North America. He has also served as General Manager for Dresser Industries where he engineered and developed fiber-reinforced plastic products by chemical, technology, and medical industries.

Phil holds an MBA from Kent State University, a Master of Science in Material Engineering, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska.

Andy Leopold

CEO & Founder

As CEO, Andy oversees R&D, Quality, and regulatory compliance at our three facilities nationwide.

Andy Leopold founded Medical Murray with his father, Phil Leopold, in 1996, and now serves as CEO. In this position, Andy oversees R&D, quality, and regulatory compliance at our three facilities nationwide. He has over 25 years of medical device expertise in complex delivery systems including 12 patents issued in various catheter technologies.

Prior to Medical Murray, Andy served as Engineering Group Leader at Guidant Corporation where he led the design team and initiated the development of many new products to treat coronary artery disease. He was also instrumental in creating novel balloon technology including material and process development. Prior to his tenure at Guidant, Andy served as an engineer for Sterling Drug where he was responsible for the development and production of new biosynthetic skin substitutes.

Andy holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

Senior Vice President / General Manager (Aptyx)

As Senior Vice President / General Manager at Aptyx, Eric oversees technology and strategic initiatives, following the acquisition of Medical Murray’s North Carolina site. 

As Chief Technology Officer, Eric leads the company’s technology and strategic objectives while also supporting the research and development of new complex catheters and transcatheter implants.  Bringing over 25 years of medical device experience with in-depth knowledge of endovascular and minimally invasive devices, Eric is a named inventor on 30 U.S. patents in multiple applications.

Before joining Medical Murray, Eric was Vice President of R&D at Altura Medical (acquired by Lombard Medical) where he led the research and development team in the design of a novel endovascular AAA stent graft system. Prior, he held key roles for several notable medical device start-ups and fortune 100 corporations including ProMed, NovoStent, Micrus, (acquired by J&J), W.L. Gore & Associates, Guidant, and Baxter Healthcare.

Eric holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Science in Materials Engineering from San Jose State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

Andy Black

VP of Research & Development

As Vice President of R&D, Andy heads all product development from initial concept to commercialization.

Andy Black has been with Medical Murray since 2003. As Vice President of R&D, Andy heads all product development from initial concept to commercialization. With an extensive medical device background, his expertise includes complex delivery systems and endovascular catheters for applications such as cardiology, oncology, thrombectomy, and stent delivery.

Andy directs the R&D project teams at all three Medical Murray facilities. He provides oversight to new product development, material selection, and project management. He also spearheads design verification and validation activities and regulatory submissions. In addition, Andy has varied experience with custom bench testing for evaluation of functional performance and compliance with FDA standards.

Andy holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

As Vice President of Business Development, Tanner Hargens is responsible for leading our global sales & marketing team.

As Vice President of Business Development, Tanner Hargens is responsible for leading and managing our global technical Sales Engineering team. Tanner has been with Medical Murray for over 15 years.

He has held several Leadership roles including General Manager where he spearheaded the 2012 opening and managed operations of our Charlotte, North Carolina, development and manufacturing facility. Tanner has extensive expertise in device design and commercialization focused on cardiovascular, orthopedic and urology devices. His background also includes vast customer experience with established companies, startups, hospitals and universities.

Outside of Medical Murray, Tanner served as Chief Technology Officer and Director for SoftJoint, Inc. a startup company developing polyurethane implants to treat osteoarthritis of the hip without bone removal.

Tanner Holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

John Hwang serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Medical Murray, bringing over 15 years of financial expertise to the company.

John Hwang serves as the Chief Financial Officer at Medical Murray, bringing over 15 years of financial expertise to the company.

He brings a track record of driving growth for several middle market companies through the execution of strategic objectives, implementation of financial and operational controls, and in some cases, personal investment. His extensive experience in financial planning, analysis, and management supports Medical Murray's continued growth and success.

Prior to joining Medical Murray, John held leadership positions at global financial institutions, where he managed multibillion AUM portfolios with a specialization in sub-investment grade credit and derivatives.

Outside of Medical Murray, John serves as Managing Partner of Areida Group, which is an advisory and investment firm that he founded in 2019.

John holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.

John's journey with Medical Murray began long before his CFO role — he worked as an engineering intern with the company in 2005.

As Director of QA / RA, Michelle manages the organization’s Quality Assurance team and Quality Management System, providing regulatory compliance support and leadership to all three Medical Murray facilities.

As Director of QA / RA, Michelle manages the organization’s Quality Assurance team and Quality Management System, providing regulatory compliance support and leadership to all three Medical Murray facilities. Michelle also actively directs the continuous improvement of Medical Murray’s Quality System.

She has been with Medical Murray since 2015. During this time, she has worked at all three Medical Murray sites as Quality Engineer, R&D Engineer, and Quality Manager, and has supported a wide variety of R&D and Production related projects and initiatives.

Michelle holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Iowa.

As HR Manager, Peggy Stefanski is responsible for internal employee management and external hiring & recruitment efforts.

As Human Resources Manager, Peggy Stefanski, plans, coordinates and directs the functions of the HR department for Medical Murray’s Illinois and North Carolina facilities. As a member of leadership, Peggy works to provide recruiting, continual staffing development, compensation benchmarking, employee health and benefits and employee relations. Peggy is certified in technical and operational aspects of HR management and has been with Medical Murray since 2006.

Director of Advanced Development Group

As the Director of our ADG, Dan Repplinger oversees our internal R&D and Process Improvement efforts. 

As Director of the Advanced Development Group, Dan Repplinger heads the new development initiatives at Medical Murray to develop products, processes, and capabilities for internal use that may then be offered to customers.

Dan has been with Medical Murray since 2014 and brings over 30 years of professional experience with consistently increasing responsibility in product/process/program design and development; project and department management. His expertise and diverse breadth and scope of development creativity includes catheter based medical devices, commercial exercise equipment, health and hearing aid instruments, electro-mechanical devices, RF signal generating products/components, handheld communication devices, and consumer electronics products and assemblies. Dan is a named inventor on 12 U.S. patents in multiple applications, and his experience allows him to excel in addressing a vast array of issues and opportunities.

Dan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign.

Rich Streske has been with Medical Murray since 2016 and has 25 years of manufacturing accounting experience in packaging, food and medical device industries. Rich and his team are responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting for the company. One of Rich’s goals is to explain the company financials in a way that all employees can understand and appreciate. Financial awareness helps everyone understand their role in a successful company and allows an employee to take pride in their accomplishments.

Rich graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.

Dante Orsini

Director of Information Technology

As Director of IT, Dante Orsini is responsible for the security and performance of information technology infrastructure, while ensuring responsible adoption of emerging technologies.

Dante joined Medical Murray in 2021 to facilitate an Enterprise Resource Management software migration. Following the successful implementation of this project, he now focuses on identifying technological opportunities to enhance security, performance, and regulatory compliance. Dante also leverages his experience in education to facilitate the work of collaborative, subject matter expert teams to identify and resolve organizational challenges resulting in sustainable business procedures and robust documentation.

Dante holds a Master of Science in Education Administration from Duquesne University and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Duquesne University.

Medical Murray Manufacturing Operations Manager Sandy Savard

Sandy Savard

Manufacturing Operations Manager (Aptyx)

As the manufacturing operations manager for Aptyx's newly acquired Charlotte, NC facility, Sandy Savard is responsible for Operations, Logistics and Customer Support. Additionally, Sandy supports the Charlotte facilities and purchasing.

Sandy returned to engineering and joined Medical Murray in 2013 after 18 years as an entrepreneur in the project management and design industry. She was one of the engineers hired in the original 3,000 sq ft Charlotte office. She has filled many roles of increasing responsibility at Medical Murray, including 2 facility moves, as the NC facility has expanded to 80+ people in 55,000 sq ft. She has managed quadrupling capacity to meet customer demands when needed and ensured capacity for continued growth. She is passionate about helping all clients, large and small, achieve their goals, which positively impacts many lives around the world.

Sandy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UNC Charlotte.
